Omaha Public Library invites the public to participate in a community conversation at one of six forums on Omaha’s library of the future. Everyone interested in the Library and how it supports our quality of life in Omaha is welcome to attend. The forums are part of a long-term strategic planning process that will help us understand what Omaha needs from the Library now and many years into the future.

The following forums are available:
•    Tuesday, Nov. 16, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Millard Branch, 13214 Westwood Ln., 402.444.4848
•    Wednesday, Nov. 17, 5:30 – 7 p.m., Florence City Hall, 2864 State St., 402.444.4896
•    Thursday, Nov. 18, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Benson Branch, 6015 Binney St., 402.444.4846
•    Friday, Nov. 19, 6 – 7:30 p.m., South Omaha Library, 2808 Q. St., 402.444.4850
•    Saturday, Nov. 20, 10:30 a.m. – Noon: Saddlebrook Branch, 14850 Laurel Ave., 402.884.7473
•    Sunday, Nov. 21, 3 – 4:30 p.m.: Milton R. Abrahams Branch, 5111 N. 90th St., 402.444.6284

Each forum is expected to last 90 minutes and light refreshments will be served. Feedback acquired from community forums will help to shape the future of Omaha Public Library and ensure that it grows with the needs of the community it serves.

“It is important that the vision for Omaha Public Library is a shared vision, created by Omaha, for Omaha,” said Omaha Public Library Executive Director Gary Wasdin. “These public forums provide everyone in our communities the opportunity to help shape the future of your library system.”

Advocacy for Arts & Culture

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Next Saturday, November 14 from 5:30 – 10:00 pm, The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts will hold its 11th Annual Art Auction and Exhibition. The auction, which spans 10,000 square feet and features local, national, and international artists, is designed as a cyclical gift exchange. In other words, not only does the auction celebrate the work of an exceptional arts community, it is an opportunity for over 200 former artists-in-residence, exhibiting artists and artist friends to support future artists-in-residence. By donating their work to the fundraiser, artists ensure that what has been an enriching experience for them in the past will be available to other artists in the future.

You may preview the works anytime through the evening of the 11th Annual Art Auction next Saturday or click here to view the works online. If you are unable to attend the auction, but are interested in supporting the Bemis Center, you may participate via Proxibid, which offers LIVE online auction bidding.
